Certainly everything is a choice of the individual, but I'd ask--why risk
the mare's life or the foal's life if there are twins? Why risk the foal's
life if the uterine tone is slack and the mare may need progesterone? Why
risk the mare's life when a pre-breeding exam may reveal an abnormality of
the reproductive tract? The odds of saving a life are much better with
palpation than without, despite the fact that there is a risk with palpation
as well. But each to his own...
