Quoted from a 07:33 PM 6/2/02 message:
WOW! Why not just pay the $17 to get her palpated? Or a sonogram you can
do after 15 days of cover.
Ever experience how quickly a horse can die after the rectal walls are
perforated? I have - it took just 45 minutes when it happened to a mare we
had sold. A very experienced and skilled vet, too. Even though it's a
common procedure that doesn't mean it's risk free - *every* palpation or
ultrasound carries that very risk. Always keep in mind that no matter what
the odds are, someone (or some critter), some time, somewhere has to be the
one who is that small percentage that makes the odds. No way am I ever
going to casually have a mare palpated again. If I absolutely had to know,
I'd pay the bucks for the blood test.
