You are going to have sooo much fun! It'll be so exciting. At dawn the
horses leave and then you get a chance to meet all the workers who will
be getting to their posts. You'll have an hour or so just to get to know
each other and walk through your job.
When the first person yells "HORSES" everyone will jump to their posts
and you'll be working like a waitress through lunchtime rush for a couple
of hours surrounded by steaming horses and very businesslike riders.
Remember. They don't know if you've done this a million times or not, so
just put on an act. What you'll find is they'll forget to get out their
card even if they've done it a million times and you'll look like the
expert as you smile patiently and unfold the sopping paper to try to mark
their time or whatever.
As the day goes by things slow down and relax. Lots of horses have
finished. People take turns going off for food or whatever. The riders
who are left aren't in a big hurry. Time to sit down in chairs between
vetting horses and visit. By the time the ride is over you'll be friends
with the other workers and vets. They'll tell you what injuries their
horses have that have forced them to just volunteer today and you'll have
had a chance to tell them all about your horse. By the time you go to
bed you'll hardly be able to wait for the next time when you'll bring
your own horse. Fun. Fun. Fun.
