Actually, I think it is more accurate to say that CTR teaches these things
to the rider. A smart rider will teach the same things to a green horse on
an endurance ride. But I do know a great many good riders who first learned
these skills in CTR. And I'm grateful to my own CTR background, as it gave
me the sort of mindset that horses CAN be ridden at an even pace, and that
that pace is under MY control, no matter what everyone else around me may be
doing. However, once a RIDER understands that, they can provide that
atmosphere for the horse at just about any AERC ride, save perhaps some of
the most crowded.
