Re: Bareback Pads
If you need stirrups, use a saddle. Stirrups and bareback pads are a bad
combination because the stirrups will not hold up like the stirrups on a
saddle because they're not attached strongly enough. In my opinion, the
purpose of bareback pads are to keep your britches clean. If you want them
to do more that, try something different (like a smoother horse, or a more
stable stirrup situation).
I love bareback, I'd just be concerned about your relying on stirrups that
aren't made to be relied on.
Have you thought of a hybrid solution? Ride in a bareback pad (NO stirrups)
to the first vet check and switch to a saddle if you get tired or sore. I
did 2 25s bareback (no pad) and would love to do it again, but as his
previous owner knows, my Tanna is way to unpredictable right now for
barebacking during an LD ride! Too bad my smooth and calm Arab has knee
problems and probably wouldn't stand up to the rigors of endurance. He's
great to bareback on.
Anyway, my point is to stay safe and stirrups on bareback pads aren't safe.
Bareback on!
April (Tip...don't wear jeans to ride bareback....it hurts)
Tanna (just TRY riding me bareback when I'm excited...I dare you!)
Serts (I'm smooth. She can TRUST me!)
