 Sort of a side note here.   Has anyone used the GOOD rechargeable batteries
 on a GPS.  Radio Shack makes a recharger for AA and AAA batteries that
works
 off of the car battery / cig lighter.

Do they work as long as regular batteries.  i.e., would a fresh set work 12
 hours?
