Susan, in this month's Western Horseman there is a wonderful article by Bob
Avila on Whoa training. Get it-it's a good one. You have to get them to
recognize a deepening of your seat and a stilling of your seat, and the word
whoa, only to be used for that. Then you use the reins. Soon the horse
associates the seat cues and you can stay out of the mouth. Go get that mag
though-it is a really good point to point training lesson on whoa.
