Well, of course I'm not Susan :-0 and don't have the expertise to answer
this question for equines. However, for human use, hydrogen peroxide is not
a good choce for wounds, for the very reasons mentioned. It's destructive
on a cellular level, and naturally that is a problem for the new sheets of
cells at wound edges. One can make an argument for using it in the initial
cleaning of a wound - it does have antiseptic properties, and the foaming may
serve as a mechanical means of dislodging dirt, though it would be better to
just wash the wound fairly vigorously. But once the intial cleaning is done
H202 is not the best choice.
While I'm on my soapbox, let me second the previous opinion about diluting
Betadine. It's a great antiseptic, but should be diluted about 1:10 - the
color of tea is just fine. It also has been shown to cause lysis of cells
when used undiluted.
