Something to keep in mind is that while this is probably *just* a bladder
infection, it is possible for infections to travel retrograde up the ureter
and also affect the kidneys (been there, done that, was *not* any fun).  So
Special just might have some compromised renal function, and traveling 25
miles and decreasing glomerular flow rate (translation, blood flow to the
kidneys is decreased because of dehydration = increased stress on the
kidneys) and so there's at least a potential of some renal insult.  Add that
to your own correct observation that bladder infections just aren't any fun
and I think your own gut feeling is the right one---there'll always be
another ride and why do it if your horse isn't having any fun?
