Buying weanling vs. 2 year old

I recently lost my 5 year old mare and am now contemplating what age horse
to buy to replace her.  I raised this mare so am familiar with the
unpredictable mentality a younger horse can have.

One disadvantage of buying a weanling is having to wait 3 years to ride
it. What other disadvantages are there to buying a weanling?  Are there
any advantages to buying a weanling other than my ability to feed/train it
the way I want?  Does a weanling bond more to an owner than a 2 year old?
