RE: 2002 World Equestrian Games, Endurance Squad
The Selection Procedures for the 2002 World Equestrian Games Endurance Squad have been drafted. The next step in the process is for both the USET and AHSA lawyers to review the procedures. However, due to the challenge over NGB recognition between these two organizations, this process has been temporarily delayed. (The USOC Hearing on the NGB issue is currently scheduled for mid-October).
As the proposed Selection Procedures have significant changes, compared to previous years, we felt the riders should be notified of some of these proposed changes as early as possible. Following is an explanation of some of those changes:
There will no longer be a "Long List" named. All rider/horse combinations that meet the Nomination Requirements and apply will be considered for the 2002 World Equestrian Games Endurance Squad.
Riders must have completed 1,000 verifiable lifetime miles (previously it had been 750).
Riders must have completed at least five (5) one day, 100 mile rides (previously it had been two).
Horse/rider combinations must complete at least one (1) out of the following trials. (PLEASE NOTE: The following schedule may be altered by the USET Endurance Committee as may be necessary or appropriate.):
Blue Bonnet - TX April 13, 2002
Biltmore Challenge CEI-A - NC May 4, 2002
Washoe Valley CEI-A - NV May 4, 2002
Grand Island – MI May 25, 2002
Liberty Run – GA May 25, 2002
Mt. Adams CEI-A - WA June 1, 2002
Flesherton – Ontario, CANADA June 1, 2002
Fort Howes CEI-A - MT June 8, 2002
Kanopolis Canyon CEI-A - KS June 15, 2002
Swanton Pacific CEI-A - CA July 6, 2002
Riders may make a written request in advance to the USET Endurance Committee to substitute events outside of North America provided they and their horse(s) meet the Criteria to Nominate as well as the current AHSA/USET Endurance Criteria to Compete Abroad, or receive a waiver in accordance with the specifications of the current AHSA/USET Endurance Criteria to Compete Abroad, and receive approval in advance from the USET Endurance Committee.
In addition to the above changes, it is important to note that there will no longer be Selectors’ Representatives. Most, if not all, of the Selectors will attend all of the above listed rides so that every nominee will be observed directly by a Selector.
Nomination deadline is March 15, 2002. Selection Procedures and Nomination packets will be distributed well in advance of that date – most likely before the end of this year.
Please feel free to contact Mary Lutz (908-234-1251; mlutz@uset.org) at the USET if you have any further questions.
