I think that Darolyn had posted (I don’t remember which list it was on……) that she was shoeing for Pan Ams per her own choice. I guess she had decided that the conditions warranted the shoeing. She also has had some setbacks this year (like flooding) and may not have had the time to condition her horses for that type of footing.
Darolyn, please post if you can! How are things going? Wishing you a fast recovery – so get well, girl.

Tracey,
I will be managing a ride here in S. W. New York on the first week in
October next year. You (and any one else) are more than welcome to
participate barefoot or otherwise. I would participate in your verification
system if you indeed finished the 50 miles in good condition.
As for Daralyn's barefoot horses - I did notice she had shoes on her horses
at the Pan Am. But maybe they were required?
I am not debating that barefoot is probably better in the long run, I am
only saying that in my years of experience, my horses have required shoes at
the point in their training that they were doing more than a few miles a
week and at any speed at all. BTW, I use primarily Aluminum shoes on my
endurance horses - they have better traction on the rock and roads.
