Furthermore, the price you quote is for "choice" horses.  Those under 1000# usually go for about half the "choice" price per pound.  Most Arabs are in the kill yard not because the owners made any money on the transaction, but because they can't afford some other means of getting rid of the horse(s) or they don't have other means of selling them.
