Gail Garrett, great gal.
You can get on TIER's mailing list, and they update at least a couple
times a month about the latest horses needing rescue. Horses rescued
end up in homes all over the country.
A couple of years ago a guy with terminal cancer dumped his three
horses at a local feedlot, all good Arabians. We heard about it
(Barb, was that through ridecamp, you gotta see this kid...) and
helped the breeder of one of them buy back the mare. She was lame at
the time, completely sound after a few months with shoes on, and 2
months ago through TIER. She delivered a well-conformed big colt by
Remington Steele++ who will turn out to be the breeder's replacement
herd sire and future endurance horse. :-)
You can support TIER through purchases made through
http://www.igive.com, which features major retailers.
I bought a papered CMK/Polish mare through AHRN at 15, she had been
roped and tripped by the charros, had lots of issues (all overcom
since) but boy what a trot. She went on to do one 50 (EHSC) and a
bunch of 25s, tough as nails, is 21 now and happy to be just a trail
horse.
