At Equinology, they teach NOT to tie the horse at all for a massage. And this is in a big DQ, Eventing and H/J area.
Don’t have an answer for you…

About this tying stuff.
I work at two race tracks, doing my massage work - one is a thoroughbred
track and the other a harness track.  The TB track people all use lead
ropes for tying - NOT cross-ties.  The harness track - ALL use cross-ties
only.  Why?  I dunno.  Does anyone out there have the answser?  I will
ask them next time there - this week.
