RE: RE: Conflict of Interest

Truman:

I think you answered your own question. The winning teams in all sports are
for profit corporations! Name me one team that is not.

While the concept of squeaky clean amateur competition is nice it just does
not exist. Not in any equestrian sport either. None of your big names in
Dressage, Jumping or Combined training, not even Reining, are
non-professional. All of them earn a good living at their so called sport.
EXCEPT ENDURANCE. And that is coming to a sad ending as well.

I would dispute you comparison of For profit and not for profit
organizations. Each is dependent upon cash flow and that cash flow is what
keep them in operation. Acknowledging this, realize that the AHSA has a much
broader base of operations for this cash flow than the USET will ever
realize.

The USET reaches out to and accepts the cream of the crop. Those who excel
in their discipline, and only as long as they do excel. Conversely, the AHSA
includes even the little backyard breeder who shows only on the local or
regional level. The AHSA reaches down to the little guy, USET reaches only
up and only to the cream of the crop.

This conflict will be resolved most likely by the courts in the end and much
to the detriment of the sport. The play is for control and not for the horse
in the slightest.

In any sport at the highest level one must produce winners or be down the
road.
How many big time college basketball coaches keep their jobs with a losing
record and how many absolute jerks who can produce winning teams keep their
jobs
no matter what they do off the court.

FEI endruance is big time high level sports - and just like any other big
time
high profile sports it's you win or you are history. And I see nothing wrong
with that. After the last year it would be nice to put some dynamite under
AERC
Int to produce a team that can in fact win.

There seems to be two choices here. One is the AHSA which ( I didn't realize
until Maggie's column ) is a for profit corporation. They are beholding to
their
stockholders to produce a profit - period, end of discussion. The USET is a
501
C3, as is the AERC so while they may be beholding to their sponsors to only
support winners ( which is not a bad thing ), they are not driven by the
profit
motive.

So are we between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea here?
