How it heats up usually depends on the outside temperature when you mix it,
and also how well you get the mix (50/50) and stirred completely. It
usually does get pretty warm, which is from the chemical reaction of the
two parts reacting together. It doesn't seem to bother the horses, but can
be annoying if you get it on your hands and don't have gloves
on. Generally, the warmer the bottles of foam are (outside temp), the
quicker they will react. To slow down the reaction time, refrigerate the
bottles or keep them somewhere cool. I tend to like it to react and set up
quickly, especially if you are foaming on 4 boots.
A little vaseline around the hairline on the horse will keep any foam that
comes up from sticking to it. Or just stay by with a tongue depressor or a
plastic spoon and scrape it away as it overflows. Be careful not to break
the seal, you want it to overflow some. After a few times it's easier to
gauge how much foam to use.
