Old wive's tales

So I am learning that a lot of what I previously learned about horses is old
wive's tales.  Like, don't let a horse drink more than 10 swallows at a time.
 Don't feed a hot horse (as in competition).  Never go faster than a walk on
pavement.  What other things have been discovered that really don't matter?
