Re: The bigger question... barns??

I am very happy with the prefab barn I had put up in 92. It was made from
Sunrise Equestrian (0ver in the valley), and is pipe pole, metal roof, and
3/4 oiled plywood that bolts into the pipe in a very simple, but nice
looking way. If a panel were to ever get kicked out, it could be easily
replaced. Barns that have plywood that is WELDED in, cannot be replaced
easily. At the time, the barn cost about $5,000. It was 36' X 24', with a
center aisle, tackroom and hay area. I later convered it to 4 stalls and
built a huge metal hay barn that is separate. I have seen nicer barns
(Diamond D), which have planks, but were almost 3 times the price. For the
type of weather we have in California, mine works just well. I later added
large paddocks off all stalls, and the horses can also be shut out of the
stalls in the summer (or they will come in to poop!) I have painted the
barn twice, and it still looks nice. Oh, when I built the hay barn, I had a
huge run in shed added off the end of the barn, that is the width of the
barn (36"). It can accomodate 3 horses, and there is pipe across the end of
the barn, so they can see the other horses.

Personally, I would not build a barn.......of you do, all supports are
likely to be wood, which the horses will chew. Mine has all pipe supports,
and all tops or panels and rails are pipe, nothing they can get their teeth
into!!
