Re: RC: beet pulp
The best way to get him to eat it is to feed it to your other horse(s) but
not let him have any. Then he'll suddenly think it's great. When I started
LD on my mare and tried to start her on beet pulp, she wouldn't touch the
stuff, no matter how much I doctored it with carrots, molasses, apples,
grain, brown sugar, etc. You would have thought I was trying to poison her.
LOL My husband's gelding would eat a few small bites and then walk off in
disgust. My mare didn't like distance riding so I bought a gelding last
fall. He's crazy over beet pulp. And now, we have to separate the mare at
feeding time because suddenly beet pulp is the greatest stuff in the
world...and she'll crowd in and snarf my gelding's food down. Go figure...
Someone told me to mix handfuls of wet beet pulp into my mare's regular food,
gradually increasing the amount as she started to accept it. Didn't work for
her (she'd pick all the "good stuff" out and leave that nasty beet pulp), but
you might try that.
