RC: Oat Hay????
I'm hoping someone out there (Susan G.?) can help me. Right now I feed my
two geldings (4 & 13) an alfalfa/grass hay, grass hay, beardless wheat
(mostly the beardless when I can find good quality), and anything left over
in the pasture (which is pretty dry now). Oh, they also get some cob and
beet pulp, but that's more like a treat than a regularity. They are both
fit, with the elder one being a bit on the heavy side.
I just found some very clean oat hay and gave some to the boys and they seem
to like out. I don't know anything about the nutritional benefits of oat
hay. If I fed that primarily, would I need to supplement with other feeds?
I don't like to feed a lot of alfalfa. We have very hard water here and I've
seen to many rocks come out horses bellies in the area to pass it off as
merely coincidence (MY opinion and observation, please don't flame me). Any
insight anyone could give on the oat hay would be greatly appreciated. Thank
you.
