I use a Wintec english girth that is made out of something that looks like
hard neoprene. It has a waffley pattern on it, and it really lubricates the
skin well, have never had a rub with it. Also use a MOHAIR string
girth--must be mohair not a synthetic. I've had really good luck with both
kinds. My friend uses a neoprene girth and swears by it. Whatever you use
it has to be clean. Some horses' skin is more sensitive to one material,
some to another. Try to borrow a couple different types, see if any work.
Good thing about the Wintec, it's only about $30. My mohair girth was also
