Most likely the reason she didn't receive BC is that she is so very
lightweight. BC is selected by a formula based on a combination of vet
scores, riding time, and rider's weight. Her mount might have had the best
vet score, and she might have had the best riding time, but her very low
weight would work against her and could cause her to lose the BC award to a
heavier rider with slower riding time and lesser vet score. Only riders
placing in the top ten are eligible for judging for BC. If the rider in 8th
place, for example, came in 3 hours later than the junior, this much slower
time factors into the formula and decreases that rider's score. But if that
rider (with tack) weighs in at 250#, that works in that rider's favor. Ride
management figures this all out, adds up the score, and the highest score in
the three catefories combined wins BC.
