Re: RC: [Fwd: RC: Heartrates up to 220]

Tom,

I can't speak for Wolfgang, but we get HR like that in
our training.

1) Choose a GOOD steep hill. Approach it like you
mean to conquer it.
2) Use a gallop or HARD trot up the hill for 1/4 -
1/2 mile (depends on the hill I can find)
3) Have the horse carry enough rider & gear to
approach Heavy Weight status (211 lbs or more)

My gelding is trained & generally competes in the HW
category. His HR is always higher than the horses
around us in the lighter divisions in the ride. When
I let a Feather Weight friend ride him, it was like he
was riderless! He was cruising along at faster speeds
than with me, and the HR was 15-20 beats lower.
(Makes me feel guilty!)

He finishes in the top 5 for our weight category, and
generally in the top 1/3 of the ride. I tend to hold
him back. I don't LIKE galloping full speed over
rocky mountainous trails.
