RE: RE: Trailer survey
Well, not to argue, but to give a counter-example: went riding in the Mojave
on Thanksgiving. 7 miles from the pavement via desert track barely
negotiable by 4WD is a point labled "WT" on the topos for the rusted-out old
water tank. From the WT it is 20 miles to the dramatic parts of Devil's
Playground. (Actually, I'm writing this mainly to relive the experience.)
But the WT itself is 7 miles from the pavement. At the end of November
there's only 9 hours of daylight. It is useful to be able to get to the WT
with the rig -- but you do want to be able to turn it around.
Another counter-example: poking around the edges of the Yolo and Sutter
Bypasses, the designated flood plain of the Sacramento river, looking for
access points between the bordering farms to ride out into this huge
bird-infested seasonal wetland. Many's the mush-shouldered 8-foot-wide
gravel lane I've rolled down hoping to find a jumping-off place, and hoping
against hope that I'm not going to have to back the rig up for a half a mile
when it's time to come back.
I ain't no weenie neither, m'dear.

When it comes to turning around on dead-end dirt roads to trailheads to
wild
and beautiful places, you want the littlest rig possible, not the
biggest.

Thats ok...it will sneak up on you!! every time I
have bought a trailer it has been a step up from what
I had previously owned. I started with a home made
single horse, single axel trailer. I was sooo proud to
finally have my own trailer and not have to bum rides
for my horse. I look back on old pictures of that
trailer and can't believe I actually paid money for it
and hauled it around for many years with out the
baling wire breaking -LOL-. Each trailer I have bought
since then, was bought with the intention of keeping
it forever. Somehow the current trailer ended up being
sold and a bigger, better one replaced it. Don't ask
me how as it was never intentional..... you know how
stuff just seems to happen!
Have fun looking for your dream trailer.
