Vacation spots near horses?

Hey gang, my in-laws are offering to take us all on a vacation this summer.  
Last summer, they took us to Sanibel Island, FL, for a week.  It was great, 
but there were NO horses.  So, any advice on a nice vacation spot (ie, resort 
or resort-like) where my non-horsey relatives will be happy and have things 
to do, but there will be a place nearby that I can ride, even if it's only a 
rent-a-horse?  Ideally, I would like to trailer my own horse, but understand 
that most resort type places kind of frown on that.  

So, the only suggestion from my sister-in-law has been a place near the 
Canadian border that offers swimming, hiking, "cultural events" but no horses 
and children aren't allowed in the dining room.  This just doesn't sound like 
fun to me.  I go on vacation to be WITH my children.  I need suggestions, 
PLEASE!
