Re: Saddle pad advice
>What's a good saddle pad to use with a well-fitting wool-flocked English
> I have made several, both english and western out of a sheepskin. I
oil the leather part with mink oil so the sweat doesnt rot the leather and
it keeps it nice and soft and pliable. I have both hosed them off and/or
run it thru the washer (NO SOAP). I shake them out and let them air dry.
Sometimes I brush them to fluff them up. They afford a natural fiber
against the horse and the leather wont allow the sweat to come thru it very
easily. Barely damp is the worst I have had the leather allow thru. The
saddle sticks to the leather part of the pad so the pad doesnt squish out.
To make an english one, just lay an english pad that fits your saddle well,
over the sheep skin. Trace the pad out onto the leather part and cut it
out. TAA DAA! a new pad. They wear like crazy. I have yet to wear one
out. gesa n clovis n skye
