Not to some of us.  But apparently so to others when you look at the various 
fads that win in the ring.  The Bedouins had to ride their horses, and their 
lives frequently depended upon their horses' athletic ability and basic 
hardiness.  Sounds pretty much like what you'd want for an endurance mount, 
no?

I tend to agree.  If I am to err as a breeder, I prefer to err in type than 
in functionality.  I can "cull" the less typey ones (or those with minor 
flaws) to functional riding homes, and retain those that are both functional 
AND typey to carry on the breeding program.  But if I breed for a "look" or a 
"style" then my "culls" have no place in the world.
