RE: Re: now new LD rider Now Short horses was Cannons was Belesemo
Hi everyone,
Ive been lurking for a while to listen and learn, as I have just adopted a
15.2 rescued arabian gelding who I think would like to be an endurance horse
someday (he is now 6 and never been ridden).
I have to chuckle about the height discussion. I come from the dressage
world where lots of American riders won't even consider a horse under 16.2,
most like them in the 17 hand range. When I met my new horse, I
thought--straight legs, seems sane, pretty cute, but he is such a
shorty--only 15.2--I am going to look like a moose on him! As I have gotten
bigger, the horses I like have gotten bigger! Before Zidan found his way
into my life, I was looking to get a draft horse so I wouldn't look so big
(can you believe it--I am so dopey) Now I am going to try trail walking and
running with Zidan, so both of us can get into shape before he gets ridden
and I start riding.
Anyway--where should I start? Any suggestions for good books to read? Are
there any people interested in mentoring in the Washington, DC area? How
about local clubs?
Keep well everybody,
Kelly and Zidan
