Re: Re: Barefoot Endurance?

In training, my girls and I average around 30 to 50 miles a week, some of it
on gravel, on some weekends we do trail rides and can put on another 20 to
40 miles. We do a week long trail ride of around 100 - 125 miles with a
average 6 mph speed. As far as Long Distance, we were riding two 4 year olds
and had to stick to the LD rides, but one of the rides was the Long X at the
ND Badlands. The terrain can be hard and rocky (not too bad), and we did the
LD two days in a row. There hooves had some chips on them, but came through
good with no soreness. This next summer, I will be doing 50's on a horse
that we could never ride without having shoes on. He has soft white feet,
but with the natural trim, we have not had to shoe him yet. But with doing
50's this next summer, I plan on using the easy boots, but will not shoe
unless necessary.

I have definitely seen a difference with the natural trim and we ride more
now then we did a few years ago. I think it is healthier for the horses to
go barefoot. I am curious too, on how well these horses are going to do on
the 50's without shoes. My girls have a couple of ponies that I think will
do the 50's even without easy boots. Tough creatures, ponies are.
