hooves and vets

I feel much better; can't speak for China. And I feel better because I
discussed it with my regular vet. He takes time to explain what will happen
and why. The one who initially did the work (logistics. different town,
etc.) simply failed, in my opinion in hindsight, to provide adequate
instruction and explanation, nor did he treat the abcess entry point
adequately. Again - opinion and hindsight. Case in point - He asked if I
had iodine, and when I replied I wasn't sure, but I did have betadine, to
which he replied that would be fine. The horses' regular vet explained to
me (a week later, unfortunately - logistics again), that the strong iodine
was needed to penetrate the wound; betadine really wasn't adequate for the
job to do. So - remember folks, always ask why a vet recommends something.
We aren't mind readers and we do need to understand the rationale behind a
vet's opinion and/or recommendation. Second case in point - the hole the
first vet carved out was tiny, and the area the second vet created was
broader and showed the abcess line clearly.

that's enough for now.
