My horse had her frog debrided by the vet for her abscess - the whole darned
thing was cut out.  Frogs *will* grow back in.
You could use an EZ boot just for riding for a while if your horse needs it.
Otherwise, using the hoof will stimulate the frog to grow in.
FWIW, when the whole frog is removed, they use some special dental
impression material and a hospital shoe to stimulate frog growth and to
prevent contracted heels.
