UPDATE ON DEPRESSED GELDING
Hello, everyone.
Just to say thank you to everyone who
wrote to me with suggestions, etc. and to give you an update on how Toc's
doing.
The blood test results showed that
his neutrophils (sp?) were slightly elevated. Apparently, this is often a
sign of stress, due to overwork. In Toc's instance, this is not the case,
as he has been off for a week, and before that was hardly ridden as I was
studying. (Maybe sympathy stress with my exam stress?)
My vet was a little surprised, but it
would appear that Toc has been fighting off, but not succumbing to, a low-grade
virus. Nothing to do with the dP at all.
In the meantime, I took the little
bugger for an outride on Monday, and he was much more chipper. In
retrospect, I've been doing quite a bit of schooling, gearing up for this
show, and not taking him out as often. So, until the show (which the
vet gave the all-clear for), we're just going to have some fun. No
schooling, just riding out.
As far as the aggression is
concerned, it appears that the dP is doing what it is supposed to. Toc is
still a bit possessive over me, and his food, but instead of body slamming PG
into the nearest fence and tearing strips off of him, he just pulls faces.
So, we're off to be DQs on
Sunday. Hold thumbs.
