I cover the lariet part with "duct tape".... what else.  <VBG>  Takes a bit
of the roughness out, but still leaves a bit of "bite" in it if that is what
U need.  I don't like the sheepskins too much due to the obstruction of
vision I think they cause.  Think about it.  Also cover the chain with duct
tape in some instances.
