Swanton Pacific 100 results
Following are the results for SP 100 last Saturday. One discrepancy may have
occurred...Karen Sweaney's story (nice story, Karen) suggests that she rode
all the way with Gary Fend, yet our ride results indicate she finished 20
minutes behind him. I'll check with Karen to verify before sending in rider
results to AERC.

There were 42 starters. Four horses were pulled for injuries (3 from falls,
1 from Yellowjacket stings), and two horses pulled for lameness. The
completion rate was 84%, the highest ever. The day was hot, but not
excessively so. A nice breeze came up in the late afternoon. The moonlight
was beautiful and riders commented on the gorgeous ocean views from the ridge
tops .
The ride started at 5:30 AM and had a total of 3 hours mandatory hold.
The SP 100 Ride & Tie started 3 teams:
1 - Dennis & Ellen Rinde on Scots Bilexijo 19:52 Overall time
2 - Jean Heishman & Janice Haug on Reebok 21:45 Overall time
The third team of Lani Newcomb & Kathy Broaddus pulled their horse Corky at
the Cascade VC at 67 miles for mild and indeterminate metabolic concerns.
This was the 5th consecutive finish, their second win and their fastest time
for husband and wife team, Dennis and Ellen.
This was twin sisters Jean's and Janice's first SP as a team.
This was the fourth try for Lani and Kathy, who have three finishes to their
credit.
The R&T started at 5:00 AM and had no mandatory holds. It takes exceptional
horsemen to pace their mounts, take the time to feed, water and rest them
properly
when there are no mandatory holds. This is only the second or third horse in
the five years of the R&T that has been pulled. The other(s) were for
lameness.
