Discolored back

My horse is a very dark bay. Recently, I've noticed that she has a
lighter brown,
saddle shaped area on her back. The pad is washed, with no soap, after
every use. It is combed
out also. The hairs are not curled up or worn away. Her back is not
sore.The pad is Skito, but
I don't remember what the underneath is made of.
