I ride my Arab up to the post, wrap the line around the rail, and start
heading for the door. My Arab pipes up, "Just where do you think you're
going? You expect to go inside while I sweat out here? And just how long
do you plan to be in there? And just what do you expect me to do while
you're in there feeding your face?!!! I'm lucky if my Arab is in the
same state when I come out! <BG><very TIC>
Nevertheless, I must be a masochist because I've owned/ridden most
breeds and still prefer my Arabs. >>
I've ridden Morgans, QHs, and grades, and I love the Arab mind. It
challenges me to out-think them. Ours are better "watch-horses" than our
dogs are watchdogs. When four sets of ears are all pointing in the same
direction, ram-rod stiff, I pay attention! We use ours on State Park patrol,
and we rely on them to spot stuff we can't see or sense. Deer are one thing,
and quite harmless, but some fellow hiding under a bush and doing his
"peeping Tom" thing from the top of a sand dune, looking down on the ladies
sunbathing on the beach, is another. My mount detected such a fellow once,
at our very feet, hiding under the brush. We herded him out of the brush and
down onto the beach, then a quarter mile up the beach in front of us, back to
his buddies. Peeping Toms on a State beach are a no-no; we've been
instructed to remove them gently from their fun.
