Re: RC: buying without riding

I was poor and had more time than money.

Um, I bought a horse over the phone once, sight unseen...He was a greenbroke
two-year-old, registered APHA TB/cross and the owner only wanted $350 (cash)
for him. Since it was my sister's boss who was selling, I thought "What
could go wrong?" Hel-lo, LOTS. What started badly for us (oh, bucking,
rearing and some stinko ground manners—once he tried to mow down my five
year-old son at feeding time) turned into a decade of problems detected,
solved and much improvement seen. I just sold him recently, at the age of
12, for about seven times what I paid for him. More importantly, I passed
along a well-mannered, pleasant, trail companion with a sweet personality.
If horse ownership is a journey, then this one was definitely the E-Ticket.
Dang I miss him...Sometimes you do get the bear.
