As I understand the standards set aside by the American College of Sports
Medicine, that is precisely what they recommend... duration of that length
for fat burning. Anyone can work up to walking for 30 to 40 minutes
nonstop. The speed and intensity of that walking will improve as her
fitness does. Increasing beyond the 40 - 60 minutes is not necessary given
consistency, say daily or as tolerated. Results will be related to the
frequency and tolerance to continue on a regular basis without fatigue of a
limiting nature or injury. Yes, injuries do occur from walking.
