RE: FW: [RidersoftheDustyTombs] FW: WATER, WATER, WATER, WATER (was: RM.... and Metabolic pulls at Tevis)

Lif, you are a woman after my own heart. I think Kate would like this idea too....except for the fact that dead horse skeletons are a dime a dozen here. With much of the desert under the Antiquities Department authority and the penalties for amateur excavation very dire, people usually just leave dead horses in the desert for the wild dogs, crows, foxes and kites to take care of.  During a rough period around the pyramids at Giza, like during an influenza outbreak, or during the Gulf War when there was no tourism and the stables were being used almost exclusively by Kuwaiti "refugees", there are dead horses all over the place. A few of the stables refused to deal with the Gulf folk after a while when they lost too many horses, but it's a pretty brutal business....as horse owning always has been in times and places where they are an integral part of a not always steady economy...Remember Black Beauty??

Kate:
You mean on the NEXT tough trail, littered with the bones of dead
horses from the previous one? Sure, maybe then things will start to
sink in for those who haven't lost their mounts or otherwise been
traumatized enough to abandon the sport. It's far too early to apply
Darwinist/Machiavellian approaches.

Ah, but this brings up a great idea.  How about obtaining the bones of a horse or three, piling them strategically along the trail in realistic poses and just telling people these were horses that were overridden?  Lif
