Re: Tevis - Slower riders
Tammi,
I can understand your frustration. I would definitely be upset since no pit
crews can get to these remote places. And after all 100 miles is a hard
ride even for a very fit horse. Given the heat and the traveling to get
there. And so many other obstacles in our lives.
However, it is My opinion that if you expect a horse to go the distance for
you and be able to recover and go again you might think about your strategy.
Three weeks between hundreds IS NOT ENOUGH time off between any 100 mile
rides. It seems to me that a nice conservative 50 would have given you
better odds of a finish at a ride like the Tevis. Or any 100 miler for that
matter.
We tend to let our "want to do it " take over our thought on should we ask
it of the horse...
Good luck next time and hug your horse for all of us. He must be a great
horse to get as far as he did under the circumstances you described.
