Yup, same here. One vet in the next state (AZ). He's only 35
miles away from us, except that he won't come out our way except for
Wednesdays when he does a kind of tour of the northern part of our
county. He *might* come for an emergency if you are close enough to
him, but I can tell you from personal experience that 100 miles (which
for here is not very far) is too far.
In his defense, he is a one man practice and if he has to leave it, the
practice shuts down. Unfortunately, he is not long out of vet
school and is not all that knowledgable about equine athletes (but I hear
he is fine with cows). The good news is that you can get
penycillin & sulpha at most any little mom & pop store around
here. The bad news is that there's a lot of amateur vets around,
