Here's some more I like about my recent farrier:  He's on time and he
remembers the conversations we've had in the past so every visit isn't a
repeat.  He'll pull out his books and show me what he's doing or what he's
learned, he goes to clinics all the time - and tells me about the ones I
might find useful.  He is very patient with the horses - he will let the
young ones put their feet down and relax if they're getting antsy - w/o
getting po'd at them.  He puts their feet down nice, not just dropping them.
He doesn't care if Mr. Mouth nibbles on his jeans or swishes his tail at
flies.  He'll talk about anything I hear and give me his opinion and listen
to mine.  BUUUUUT, is that worth $95 a horse??????  In an area the average
guys are $60 and the good ones (that are so booked I can't get them) are
$75????  I don't know, the only thing I don't like about him is that his
nails come out real high and my horses feet grow soooo slow that if I put
more than 3 sets of shoes on, they're feet would be demolished.  But he is
good at corrective stuff and that's why he's so in demand and upping his
price.  I'm trying to spend half the year barefoot and he hates just
trimming and I don't have enough money to shoe and go to rides, so who knows
who I'll get next.

How do you tell if you have the best farrier around?

He's usually on time, has only no-showed once, no one has gone lame, and
things have not gotten worse. :-)  Is this as good as it gets???
