A riding instructor told me not to have more than 10% of your weight in your seat.  Let's say 4 oz is less than 1% of your weight on your stirrups, this leaves 89% of your weight where??????

I'd say it depends on the kind of riding instruction you were getting.  I'm not a hunt seat rider, never have received any instruction, but I'd imagine with hunt seat you'd have less weight on your seat, more using knees & stirrups.  But I don't know for sure.

However, what has allowed me to be the most comfortable over the miles is putting as much of my weight as possible on my seat bones and as little as possible in the stirrups, with no support coming from my knees and some support coming from the thighs.  It is as close as I can get to bareback riding as I can using a saddle.  I no longer have any knee, ankle or foot problems at all.  Lif
