Here in the NW, if you don't know someone who endurance rides, you can't even 
find out where the rides are to crew, WHICH BY THE WAY I HIGHLY RECOMMEND for 
anyone interested in learning.  I got into it by boarding with someone who 
had been doing rides for about 4 or 5 years.  I had been interested for a 
while, but Trailblazer is subscription only here, there are no organized 
groups, and the people I mentioned it to in the local Arabian community 
didn't seem to know anything except it sounded like an AWFULLY long way to 
ride.  No local bulletin boards with rides posted, few to no articles in 
general horse magazines and I wasn't computer literate.  It can be very 
difficult to get connected under those circumstances.  jeri
