I think maybe everyone should be required to work for a ride before being
allowed to ride one of any length.  We always recommend this to
people who want to start doing endurance.  It's a real eye opener
for some of them to realize how tough it is, and what a toll it can take
on horses when things go bad - and riders, too, of course.
