RE: Luwex pads
>> These pads are not riveted to the shoe, but stay in
place on their own.
I use the Luwex pads also - and am pleased with them. The
pads have small nubs on the foot side at the heels.
The pad is nailed with the shoe at the toe and quarters
but not near the heel. The theory is that the nubs will
keep the pad in place and moving with the heels as
they expand and contract with each step - so there
is reduced friction between the heels and the pad.
I have used the rim pads and the full pads on several
horses. They stay in place very well, and we typically snip
the nubs off to almost nothing. The only problem I've had
is when we left a little too much nub on the inside near
the heel and it bruised the sole. I have had problems in
the past with sore heels on Khruschev - Jaye balanced
his feet better, and put these pads on all four and
he's going beautifully now, never better. The pads
can be reset several times, plus they come in cool
colors - lime, lemon and blueberry :)

They are also good cushioning...
