I bought my neighbors bumper pull trailer last year and he threw in the weight distributing hitch with the trailer. He had one of the big extended campers that hung over the end of the pickup bed. The weight distributing hitch is composed of several pieces and is excellent to use when pulling a heavier bumper pull trailer. It also has an extended hitch bar which gives you room for the camper while having a brace for the extended bar. The one I have has an adjustable hitch bar, allowing you to move the ball mount up or down to level your trailer out. There are sway bars that are hooked up between the truck (from the ball mount) to the trailer tongue (bolt-on brackets) that eliminates swaying of the trailer. Go to the Reese web site to learn more. They do sell simple extended bars but I would highly recommend the weight distributing hitch. http://www.reesehitch.com/contents.html#Weight Bonnie Snodgrass -----Original Message----- From: guest@endurance.net [mailto:guest@endurance.net] Sent: Sunday, July 02, 2000 12:56 AM To: ridecamp@endurance.net Subject: RC: Hitch Extensions barb bkcbs@hotmail.com Does anybody pull their trailer with a hitch extension? I am trying to find out how safe this set-up is. We are in the process of buying a camper, but the best one for our purposes is 9'6", hangs over the truck bumper, so we'd need an extension for the trailer. The idea makes me totally nervous =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
