Title: RE: Re: fly control

I would suggest you check out fly predators (tiny wasps - do not harm you or anything else but the fly larva). Once you build up enough of these little guys they stop the fly reproduction cycle and boom no fly's. It really works well. You can contact the Source in Redding at 530-221-7391 and they will ship them out to you.

Hi Michael,
Flies are , it seems, an unpleasant constant in summer. I have very little
problem with flies at the barn. It is kept clear of any manure or urine and
so does not seem to be an attractant. I have tried various fly baits and
traps as well as feeding garlic, but the most effective fly control I have
found is fastidious attention to cleaning the field each day. I have five
horses who are turned out at night and kept in the barn and paddocks during
the hot days. It only takes an hour or so to clear the field of the nights
droppings and it definitely makes a difference in the number of flies
buzzing around. Swat is an ointment which is made specifically as a fly
deterrent and either the clear or the heavy pink ointment is very effective
at keeping the flies out of wounds.

I'm not real knowledgeable about owning and pasturing horses and before I go
trying everything from a bug zapped to fly paper I'd like some advice on how
to go about controlling fly's from somebody with success and experience. We
have a Mare with some sores on her neck from scratching the fence post and
the fly's are drawn to the wound and I'd like to know how to help her until
she heals and how to prevent it from getting worse.
