Frank, could you please give a definition of ambling? Where in Duncan's continuum (pace - stepping pace - rack - foxtrot - trot) does it fit in? With Icelandics, we use a "gait map" (see http://www.dream-teams.com/Gait.htm for an example) to visualise this continuum, sorry the illustrations aren't too great (the foxtrot/trotty tolt picture is completely wrong), but maybe you could locate the amble somewhere on there?. Curious! Jana (who has only ever heard of "ambling" as the old English catch-all term for any slow-ish lateral gait and would like to learn more)
